Frequently Asked Questions

HOW DO I REGISTER?

1.  Register on-line or come to an in person registration event.

2.  Pick up registration paperwork at any SCYF event.  Paperwork includes: physical (signed by a doctor), a copy of birth certificate, photo of participant and full year report card. You will need to return all completed paperwork before your cheerleader can take the field.

3.  Attend mandatory uniform fitting on May 19th.

WHAT AGE CAN PARTICIPATE?

Cheer is offered for age 5 – 16, all experience levels welcome.  Your daughter’s age will determine team placement along with availability of coaches.

WILL MY DAUGHTER CHEER FOR MY SON’S FOOTBALL TEAM?

It is not guaranteed, cheer teams are formed by age and cheer for football teams of the like age group.  If your daughter cheers for the same division as your son, we always do our best to put the two teams together.

WHEN WILL MY HEAD COACH CONTACT ME?

You can expect an e-mail or phone call in July.

HOW LONG IS THE SEASON?  

The season runs from August through November.

Practice begins August 1st, with football scrimmages beginning two weeks later. Regular season football games begin on August 25th. Cheering for games ends when football games are over, typically the end of October.  The first cheer competition is also at the end of October. If your team qualifies for WESCON regional competition that is typically held the weekend before Thanksgiving. Pop Warner National Cheer and Dance Competition is held in Orlando, FL in early December.

HOW OFTEN ARE PRACTICES AND WHERE ARE THEY HELD?

The first 2 weeks of practices in August are typically 4-5 days per week for conditioning.  By the time school starts or by Sept. 1, squads drop practices down to 3 days a week, with  6 hours per week maximum.  Practices are held at various parks and schools in San Clemente.  You will know your practice schedule at the start of the season.

WHAT DAYS ARE PRACTICES?

The practice days are determined by the coach and will be communicated in July. If you have a conflict, please communicate that early on to the head coach. Our attendance policy is strictly enforced.

WHERE ARE THE GAMES?

Most games are on Saturday. Home games are played at San Clemente High School.  Away games can be held anywhere in the OEC Conference which covers all of Orange County and a few cities in Los Angeles County.  Traveling will be involved, and most teams will be required to arrive 30 minutes prior to game time.  The schedule is released by the OEC in August so you can plan ahead.

WHO SCHEDULES THE GAMES?

The Orange Empire Conference schedules the games.

2024 Cheer Uniform Fee

New Cheerleaders- new uniform package $225

You will be required to purchase a complete uniform package for $225. This will include cheer uniform: shell top, liner, skirt and shorts. Parents must provide white cheer shoes and white no show socks.

Returning Cheerleaders: If you have a uniform that fits and is approved at cheer fitting, you will not be required to purchase a new uniform.
You must wear your full uniform to the fitting for approval.

**If your uniform no longer fits you have the option to:

  • Order a complete uniform package for $225

  • Order only uniform pieces needed

Replacement pieces pricing-

  • Shell $85.00

  • Skirt $75.00

  • Liner $45.00

  • Short $20.00

All cheerleaders are required to attend MANDATORY in person registration and uniform fitting event in May TBD.  

Used Uniforms

You may sell your old uniform items (shell, liner, skirt only) for $30 per item at the used uniform table at the Registration Event on May TBD. Buyer will directly pay the seller via cash or check. You must remain with the items you are trying to sell at the event. SCYF and Cheer is not responsible for used uniforms.
